a picnic on the beach: Warren Dunes – peace. love. quinoa
Aug 14
We are absolutely in love with the beach at Warren Dunes which is why I can’t believe it took us this long to get there this summer….. and although we were just there last weekend, we’re considering another trip there this upcoming weekend (if the weather holds up)….
Seriously, that view….. not bad for the Midwest, right?
(that’s Lake Michigan)
When we picnic, I like to pack a small cooler with 5-10 frozen bottles of water (so we don’t have to go to the gas station and buy ice) The frozen bottled water keeps everything in the cooler cold and you can drink it as it starts to thaw. (genius, right?)
We love oogave soda, it’s made with natural, healthy, and organic ingredients.
(plus they have awesome flavors like Root Beer & Watermelon Cream)
I’ve been obsessed with homemade iced tea lately, this weeks flavor is Peach Rooibos.
I bottled some up and put it in the cooler.
For lunch, we considered packing a small grill and veggie burgers but we didn’t want to mess around with a hot grill on the hot beach so we made Chickpea Salad Sandwiches instead. I like packing chickpea salad because it travels well and I don’t have to worry about it staying ice cold the entire trip (even though we had the cooler), it doesn’t get ruined if it warms in the sun for a few hours, ya know?
I was going to grab some lettuce out of the garden to put on our sandwiches but I forgot to pick it before we left!
(sad face)
We also ate an entire bag of cherries on that beach. I can tell it’s cherry season because every single cherry in that bag was ripe, juicy, flawless, and deeeelicious. Those might have been the BEST cherries I have ever had, you should be jealous. *smiles*
