thyme-tea-cough-buster

Two weeks after I suffered through the common cold, I still have a super fierce, annoying cough. It doesn’t really hurt but it sounds bad and it’s keeping me from going to yoga.

I refuse to take over-the-counter bullcrap medication (did you know that cough drops contain sugars and sucrose and CRAP in them??) – it’s just not my style. Instead, I’ve taken Chinese Herbs: Yin Chiao. I found a cold remedy at a Natural Foods Grocery Store and I’ve been using all-natural cough drops. I have discovered that nothing is going to make my cough magically disappear but I can do things to lessen it and make it seem more manageable.

I found a recipe for this Cough Busting Thyme Tea and decided t give it a try. Thyme is one of the few herbs that I’ve got an abundance of (growing in the garden) so it worked out well.

I have made this tea several times now and it has definitely helped with my cough (even if only temporarily). The tea definitely has a kick to it and a taste that you will acquire after the first cup. I like it. I would even drink it if I didm’t have a cough to tame.

To make this Thyme Tea, follow these 3 easy steps:

1. Steep 2 tablespoons of fresh thyme & 1 tablespoon of fresh grated ginger in a cup of boiling water for about 10 minutes or so.
2. Strain the thyme and ginger out of the tea.
3. Add 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, 1 teaspoon of turmeric, and the juice of 1/2 a lime.

It is recommended that you drink this Thyme Tea 3-4 times a day if you are fighting a cough.
